Myth Hunters: Werewolves
“Well, how do you know they are werewolves and not just regular wolves or coyotes?” Kelly was always pointing to the most rational explanation.
“Because regular wolves and coyotes don’t leave beer cans and cigarette butts, do they?” The man threw up his hands. “These jackasses make a party of it. They get liquored up, have sex, and then dine out on my sheep.”
“Wow, I would say that’s some pretty damning evidence right there.” Jerry elbowed Kelly as he always liked to give her a hard time about her skepticism.
“Have you ever tried to catch them in the act?” Jack stepped in to moderate the situation.
“Oh yeah, but they always smell me coming so I never get a shot off in time. I have my suspicions though. I’m pretty sure I know who they are.” The man crossed his arms.
“Really? You have their names?” Kelly got her pad out ready to write down the info.
“Oh yeah, it’s the Neuhaus family from up at Red Lick Run. They’ve been hassling this area for generations, and everybody knows it. Nobody can do anything about it.”
The entire audience seemed to nod in agreement and the room filled with soft conversations among the participants.
The team watched the scene unfold in amazement. It was obvious that everyone there agreed and had the same opinion. But it was odd that this family had been able to run roughshod over the community with impunity for so long.
“I don’t understand. If you all agree this family is the problem, why can’t you go to them and take action as a community?” Kelly looked around the audience to see if anyone would meet her gaze. No one would look at her directly.
“Miss, you just don’t understand. Maybe you should go interview them and see if you can convince them to stay off our land. They go where they please and do as they please. It’s just their way.” The man finally sat down after he said this. He seemed defeated now rather than mad.
A beautiful woman with three children raised her hand in the back. Jack called on her and asked her to come forward so we could hear her better.
“Hi, I’m Amber. I just want to warn Ms. Duboix that she may want to let the men do the interview.”
“Um, why would you say something like that Amber?” Kelly was obviously offended.
“Well, every time I’ve come into contact with one of the Neuhaus men I ended up getting pregnant and had one of their babies. All three of my children are from one of those brothers.”
You could hear the audience snicker and mumble under their breath.
“Y’all can judge me all you want, but I just can’t resist them when they come around. You listen to me Ms. Duboix, if you want to keep your pants on, you’ll steer clear of those men.” Amber waved her finger at Kelly furiously.
